St. Louis User Experience Conference (STLUX) STLUX is an annual conference hosted by user experience professionals from St. Louis companies. All planning, coordination, and presentations are are done by local user experience practitioners.

Usability Professionals Association (UPA) As the name states, people that practice usability methods in their work. Similar to SIGCHI, with more emphasis on practical techniques, less on theory or computer technology.
UTEST Offers good links to usability material on the Internet. Includes information about accessing the UTEST listserv, or email group distribution list, for usability professionals.
IBM HCI Works IBM's Human-Computer Interaction Works web site offers explanations to the fundamentals of UI and HCI, as well as exhibits of some of the latest IBM interface technology, including 3D environment simulations.
IBM User-Centered Design Provides an overview of the UCD practices, a tour of the IBM UCD Lab, and a description of the consulting services offered in User-Centered Design. You can also sign up here to participate in an IBM UCD study!
Cooper Associates Alan Cooper has inspired or agitated a number of people with his views on software design, well-documented in his book, "About Face: The Essentials of User Interface Design". Alan strongly espouses using paper for software design, despite being the "father" of Visual Basic, probably the most popular software prototyping tool!

inContext A primary mover in the field of Contextual Inquiry (CI). CI helps you to really know your end-users inside and out, which in turn assures that you build software or systems that will target customer needs well.
